Hopkins BME student wins 2024 Career Impact Award

November 5, 2024

Kiara Quinn, a biomedical engineering PhD student, was recently awarded a Johns Hopkins 2024 Career Impact Award in the Doctoral Scholar Category.

Established in 2021, the Career Impact Awards celebrate the unsung heroes within our community who have generously shared their time, expertise, and connections to support the professional and career growth of others. These awards honor those whose selfless actions, often performed quietly and without recognition, have strengthened our community and made a lasting impact. This year, the award committee received a record-breaking 250+ nominations, a 67% increase from last year’s submissions.

Quinn works in the Neuroengineering and Biomedical Instrumentation Laboratory of Nitish Thakor, professor of biomedical engineering. His lab studies neuroprostheses with the central goal of improving the restoration of motor and somatosensory functions with upper-limb prostheses. Their approaches use muscle and brain signal recording, stimulation, robotics, signal processing, and augmented reality.

Quinn’s research specifically focuses on implantable devices for interfacing with reinnervated muscle. She is also a Kavli Neuroscience Discovery Institute Graduate Scholar.
