CBID team wins Wharton Business Plan Competition

April 30, 2010

The CBID Masters team Cortical Concepts won the Michelson Grand Prize in the prestigious Wharton Business Plan Competition. Team leader Stephanie Huang and team members Jason Hsu, Christopher Komanski, Evan Luxon and Nicolas Martinez developed a device to strengthen fixation of screws in osteoporotic spinal bone, avoiding the pain and expense of revision surgery to repair loosened screws. The prize carries with it $20,000 cash and $10,000 worth of in-kind services. This is not the only success for Cortical Concepts this season. They also have won first place in the Cornell Venture Challenge, and placed second in the Cincom and University of Cincinnati Spirit of Enterprise MBA Business Plan Competition. Tradeshow awards at the University of Manitoba Stewart Clark Venture Challenge and the University of Oregon New Venture Championship, and a third-place finish at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln New Venture Challenge round out their accomplishments so far.
