CBID students take a Jhpiego field trip

December 19, 2010

As part of the new CBID course in global health, CBID MSE students have partnered with Jhpiego, an international health organization affiliate of Johns Hopkins University to design and develop low-cost medical devices that are custom designed to serve developing countries. During the trip, students were immersed for two weeks in the developing nations of Nepal, India, and Tanzania where they observed the health challenges facing women and researched the compatibility of proposed biomedical solutions to eclampsia, postpartum hemorrhage and other reproductive-health issues. Students also got a feel for the impact that societal and cultural realities can have on delivery of health services.
