Application Processing

The BME department does not handle the application and/or the processing of application materials.  Do not send any application materials to the department. Applications are processed and managed through Engineering Graduate Admissions. For questions or concerns about submitting your application, contact Engineering Graduate Admissions, and include your full name and application reference number with your inquiry.

Decisions are typically made by the end of March for fall admissions, and by the end of October for spring admissions. Applicants will receive notification of decision around that time.

COVID-19 updates:

The Department of Biomedical Engineering and the Office of Engineering Graduate Admissions are actively monitoring the COVID-19 pandemic. This crisis does not impact how applicants are evaluated. We will continue to review applications and proceed with offers of admission as usual.

Please contact program manager Sam Bourne with any specific questions about the BME master’s programs, your application, and/or John Hopkins Whiting School of Engineering. For all other admissions questions or concerns, please contact Graduate Admissions at [email protected].

For 2023 Applicants Only – Request a GRE Waiver Due to COVID-19 Accessibility Issues

In response to the test accessibility issues caused by COVID-19, the Whiting School of Engineering (WSE) will offer only those applicants impacted by COVID access issues a waiver of the required GRE for the fall 2023 admissions cycle.

How to Request a GRE Waiver Due to COVID-19

If you qualify for the GRE waiver based on COVID-19 accessibility issues, you must apply directly in the application and provide supporting documentation. Please do not email Engineering Graduate Admissions for this request. If you are applying as a Master’s student, follow the instructions on the “GRE Waiver Request” section to complete all required fields. This section is dependent on all fields being completed in the earlier “Program Information” section.

*Our program engages in holistic admissions review and we expect many competitive applications will not include GRE scores this year.  We will review all applications equally and there will be no disadvantage to applicants with approved waivers.
