Abstract:
Veina is reimagining the blood draw for emergency care. Hemolysis, the breakdown of red blood cells caused by excessive shear stress, leads to inaccurate lab results and delays in diagnosis—particularly critical in emergency settings. Current blood draw tools have changed little in decades and often fail to account for variations in patient physiology or nurse technique. Veina’s device introduces a pressure-regulating mechanism that adapts in real time, reducing hemolysis without altering existing clinical workflows. Developed through iterative prototyping, benchtop testing, and clinical feedback, Veina aims to improve diagnostic reliability and reduce unnecessary repeat draws in high-pressure care environments.
