Abstract:

Foot drop is a gait impairment faced by stroke patients that compromises mobility, balance, and increases fall risk. Current solutions like ankle-foot orthotics are limited by their rigidity and discomfort and may hinder rehabilitation, while advanced devices offering adaptive assistance are bulky and costly. We introduce GaitPro, an unobtrusive wearable device that assists in gait correction for stroke patients with foot drop. GaitPro integrates a pressure sensing insole with an adaptive motorized pulley system to lift the foot and provide support based on the user’s activity, facilitating rehabilitation and enhancing comfort. This solution goes a step further by achieving robust dynamic support across different stages of the gait cycle, maintaining performance under varying levels of activity. GaitPro addresses a critical gap in stroke rehabilitation by offering an affordable, compact, and adaptive solution to improve mobility, reduce fall risk, and enhance quality of life for individuals with foot drop.
