Abstract:

This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of standard cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) guidelines versus end-tidal carbon dioxide (ETCO2)-guided algorithmic CPR in a swine model. We analyzed 47 swine model experiments with continuous waveform recordings of ETCO₂, arterial blood pressure (ABP), venous blood pressure (VBP), and intrathoracic pressure (ITP) across key resuscitation stages. Six critical timepoints were manually annotated and cross-validated using a three-round system to finalize regions of interest such as asphyxia and resuscitation for further analysis. Artifacts were flagged and removed to ensure high-quality data. Analysis was done to extract key features and perform statistical comparisons, including baseline physiology, rates of return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC), and time-series changes. The goal is to determine whether ETCO₂-guided CPR improves outcomes and to uncover any underlying physiological differences between the two strategies.
