Whitaker Biomedical Engineering Institute at Johns Hopkins University

Affiliate Centers and Institutions

  • Center for Bioengineering Innovation and Design (CBID)
The Center for Bioengineering Innovation & Design educates and develops the next generation of leaders in health care technology innovation. Their goal is to positively impact the quality and accessibility of health care worldwide.
  • Center for Cardiovascular Bioinformatics and Modeling (CCBM)
Mission: To develop new methods for the representation, storage, analysis and modeling of biological data, and to apply these methods to better understand cardiovascular function in both health and disease.
  • Center for Hearing and Balance
The Center for Hearing and Balance performs research and train new investigators, for both basic and clinical applications. Research is centered on auditory (hearing) and vestibular (balance) function in normal subjects and in patients with hearing or balance disorders.
  • Center for Imaging Science (CIS)
The Center for Imaging Science (CIS) is immersed in the worldwide establishment of analytical models for image and pattern information transmission -- analogous to the models generated in the Shannon er. A fundamental goal is  extraction of metadata,  and ultimately going from pixels to patterns to understanding.
  • Center for Magnetic Resonance Microimaging
The mission of the Center for Magnetic Resonance Micro-imaging is to develop new MR technologies that improve the resolution and contrast of MRIs, and apply them to observe brain anatomy and then answer various biological questions.
  • Institute for Computational Medicine (ICM)
ICM’s mission is to develop quantitative approaches for understanding the mechanisms, diagnosis and treatment of human disease through applications of mathematics, engineering, and computer science.
  • Mind/Brain Institute (MBI)
The Mind/Brain Institute is dedicated to the study of the neural mechanisms of higher brain functions using modern neurophysiological, anatomical, and computational techniques.
  • Translational Tissue Engineering Center (TTEC)
the mission of TTEC is to educate and train tomorrow’s leaders in regenerative medicine and accelerate delivery of regenerative medicine technologies to patients.
