Former NIH Director Zerhouni Re-appointed Professor of BME

picture of Dr. Elias ZerhouniFormer National Institutes of Health (NIH) Director Elias Zerhouni, M.D. has been re-appointed Professor of Radiology and of Biomedical Engineering effective January 1, 2009. Dr. Zerhouni had been serving as NIH Director since 2002.

Dr. Zerhouni has had a long association with Johns Hopkins. Prior to joining the NIH, Dr. Zerhouni served as executive vice-dean of Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, chair of the Russell H. Morgan department of radiology and radiological science, and Martin Donner professor of radiology, and professor of biomedical engineering. Before that, he was vice dean for research at Johns Hopkins.

In addition to directing NIH, Dr. Zerhouni has been a consultant to the White House, consultant to the World Health Organization, a member of the National Academy of Sciences' Institute of Medicine, and has served on the National Cancer Institute's Board of Scientific Advisors. He has won numerous awards, is the author of over 200 publications and holds 8 patents.
