BME CBID Presents Showcase & Shark Tank

Dr. Gautam Gulati, Physicians Interactive Holdings, keynote speaker at CBID Showcase
The JHU Biomedical Engineering Center for Bioengineering Innovation & Design (“CBID”) held a Showcase & Shark Tank on December 11, 2012 in the Johns Hopkins Hospital's Sheik Zayed Tower. The event was attended by nearly 150 JHU faculty, staff and students as well as guests from outside of the Johns Hopkins Institutions. The Showcase included a speaker series and student poster session and the Shark Tank featured graduate student device projects designed for the U.S. MedTech industry.

Keynote speaker, Gautam Gulati, MD, MBA, MPH, Chief Medical & Innovation Officer, SVP Product Management, Physicians Interactive Holdings/Skyscape, presented on The Physician Entrepreneur and Henry Ahn, Program Manager, Technology Funding Programs, Maryland TEDCO, presented on Early Stage Funding for Medical Device Innovations. The Shark Tank presentation provided CBID MSE students the opportunity to present their U.S. MedTech Innovation projects as investment opportunities to a panel of industry experts. Cash prizes were awarded as “investments” from the panel based on their assessment. The following projects were presented and awarded: Vascular Anastomosis was awarded $900, Breast Cancer Surgery was awarded $750, Sleep Apnea was awarded $250, and Resistant Hypertension was awarded $100.
The CBID event was sponsored by Clinvue, a medical device innovation company, the JHU Department of Biomedical Engineering and the Center for Bioengineering Innovation and Design.
