Biomedical Engineering Social Occasions

The Annual Biomedical Engineering Ph.D. Program Retreat--Each Autumn, the faculty, staff, and students in the program retire to a pleasant off-campus setting for a day-and-a-half of scientific and professional discussion and recreation. Retreats have been held at resorts on both the eastern and western shores of the Chesapeake Bay and in the farm country of Pennsylvania. Usually, two mornings and one afternoon are devoted to a mix of poster and oral presentations, mostly by students. Dinner is usually accompanied and followed by small group and general discussions of a topic of general interest. These have included scientific ethics and mentoring.

The Biomedical Engineering Annual Picnic--Each June, the entire Department of Biomedical Engineering and all the members of the Biomedical Engineering Ph.D. faculty gather for an afternoon picnic. Activities include softball, volleyball, and lots of eating. Friends and family are also invited and encouraged to attend.

From time to time, students organize informal social occasions which will be funded by the program director's office. If possible, organizers should discuss plans for these occasions with Hong Lan three weeks before they are to occur.
